It's Never Too Late

Do you have a #dream that was never realized? I'm here to tell you that it's never too late!

In 2016 I left a corporate career in healthcare administration and started a non-profit giving garden called #gardensforgood. We grow organic produce for families and seniors that are unable to afford fresh food otherwise.

If you think that going from a corporate environment, mostly sitting at a computer or in a meeting all day, to working a 1/3rd Acre garden and and running a sustainable #nonprofit is a BIG CHANGE, and a #challenge you'd be right.

It was and still is a challenge for me to do everything I've set out to do. But, I wouldn't change it for the world. Is it scary and less financially stable? That's a BIG YES! Is it rewarding and fulfilling in so many other ways? Also a BIG YES.

It's taken me a few years to be able to articulate, in a meaningful way, just how overwhelming and wonderful and exciting and terrifying this experience has been, and still is for me, every day. Please don't get me wrong, I've been preparing for this gig my whole life, I just didn't realize it. That's why I'm writing this, so that YOU, that middle-aged women, who thinks she missed her chance, wrong! You've been preparing for your chance, all your life.

If you are longing to get out of that career you thought was gonna be great at 25 or 35 years of age, only to realize today that you dread getting up and leaving the house everyday. I'm here to tell you, IT IS NEVER TOO LATE! Don't settle for a life that makes you feel hopeless and like another cog in the wheel of some corporate machine. You can make a difference in this world, and you NEED to make a difference in this world. WE NEED YOU!

All those years of raising babies and organizing events (that engagement party for a friend, all those birthday parties, perhaps the corporate events you planned) those skills are what you NEED now. Balancing a family budget, working as part of a team, managing people, volunteering in your community. Whatever it is, you needed all those opportunities to learn and advance your skills. Now, put them to good use. Whatever that dream is...start thinking about how you can make that gig work for you. You don't have to walk away from a career you've been building for 20+ years like a crazy person, this will take some planning, but you have permission to #followyourdream.

If not you, WHO ELSE WILL BE YOUR VOICE? no one else has that idea, that solution, that dream that will change lives. Only you have your vision, your skills and your experience. Only you have the ability to "do you" and the world needs you to make a difference. Tired of watching the news and hearing about all the yucky stuff. Make your own news! Put out something positive in the world. Whatever it is. DO IT!! ..make your dream a reality, make some plans and do some homework. Start making some outrageous goals and then start taking steps toward achieving them. If you start today...where will you be in six months or a year?

But wait, what will people think? When you tell your family and friends about your idea, what are they gonna say? Trust'll get some interesting comments, and strange looks from some people, but...don't let that stop you. Believe me when I say that telling people I'm giving up my career to grow vegetables got some pretty interesting reactions. I always say if you're getting strange looks, it means you must be on to something!! Find a #tribe of like-minded women and chat them up; follow them on social media, get on a Facebook group, join a community group that shares your passion. Whatever you need to do, find your #posse. You will need them when you feel like everyone thinks you're crazy and you start to believe them. I can't explain how important it's been for me to find other women who not only understand my dream, but believe in the power of ME and the ability to make my dream a reality. There is always fear. Fear of taking a stand, having a voice, doing something DIFFERENT. Women are taught at a very young age not to make any sudden movements in life, because someone might notice! EEK!! If you are nodding your head right now, I know it's difficult. My advice...start listening to voices of women who will encourage you, and who have already walked this path. Start listening to the voices of those women and men who encourage you. There are so many fantastic podcasts and books available that will give you the tools and strength so you can begin your journey towards the best life you can imagine. Is it easy? No. Is it worth it? Yes!
